Here died Minor White

Sun Spots

Today marks the passing of photographer Minor White in 1976, as did Thursday of last week mark my birth that same year. Real or imagined, I feel like I have some connection to Mr. White: the proximity of my entering the world to his leaving it, the beautiful texture-based photographs he made (and I aspire to), and of course the greatest compliment from an art teacher I ever had- Michael Simon taking me aside after a photo class and telling me that my work reminded him of Minor White's for their beautiful "almost Japanese in simplicity" quality. So here is a photo taken in homage to Mr. White's "Windowsill Daydreaming."
PS posting has been uneven as I attempt to move my blog over to our new domain: http://www.wordstudio.net/re-photos/
I'll let you know when I'm there for good, in the meantime if you're looking for Will you can find him at the address above (minus the /re-photos/).

Kong at Paris on Ponce

Kong at Paris on Ponce

More public art from here in Atlanta, a King Kong climbs a Eiffel tower by the wonderful junk/antique/oddity shop "Paris on Ponce." There is an enchanted door in Paris on Ponce that opens into a French cabaret, ranging from c. 1890 to 1930 (depending on when you open the door, the way the light is falling, the temperature of the air as it eddies around piled treasures. . .). It is a fey experience to come across this door after digging through piles of mannequin parts in fancy dress and discarded hardware to find just what you're looking for, or just whatever you can find. Magic lurks in strange places, it's always best to keep your eyes and mind open.

Mr. Fangs

Mr. Fangs

Mr. Fangs lives in Atlanta, you can learn more about him here.
I took lots of pictures of Mr. Fangs on the wall of the"secret" entrance to a club called MJQ. I though I was going for photos of the spray paint on rotting and rain soaked wood, but it turns out I like the tension between these two going heads on the best.
